The Pee Wee's traveled to Orlando over Labor Day to compete in an early season tournament that gave the coaches a good look at what the boys could do in game situations. The Fire blizted the Miami Toro's 12-0 in game one on Saturday. The Fire outplayed the Toros from the drop of the puck and controlled most of the action.
In game two on Saturday, the took on the eventual champion Palm Beach Blackhawks '00 and played well in the first period and the shots were relatively even as the game was back an forth. But as the 2nd period wore on you could tell it was the first game of the day for Palm Beach as they had fresher legs and shut down our offensive attack. The Fire fell 7-0 but had to face over 40 shots in the process.
Sunday morning went much better as the coaches made some positional changes and we jumped on the Palm Beach Blackhawks MBY team early in route to a 7-1 win.
The final game of the tournament was a semi-final match against our buddies from The ICE. In this match-up the dad in the penalty box was not lonely as The Fire was whistled for 11 penalties. Even with playing much of the game short-handed the game was tied 1-1 four minutes into the 2nd period. In the end the man down was too much to overcome against a talented group and the Bandits prevailed 5-1 (final goal with 6 seconds left).
