Squirts Show Their Support For Coach Bendickson
The Atlanta Fire Squirt Major team attended the Gwinnett Gladiators game last Saturday evening to support their coach, Aaron Bendickson, and watch him play for the Gladiators. Bendickson’s experience and knowledge gained through a playing career that has included junior hockey in the USHL, four years of college hockey at the University of Wisconsin, and professional play with the Gladiators as well as the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League, has been a wonderful addition to the Fire program. On Wednesday evenings Aaron joins other former Division I College players, including Tom Bardis, Steve Jacobs and Marcus Gustafsson at the Cooler to help lead skill development sessions for the Fire Squirt, PeeWee and Bantam players. Monday and Wednesday evening finds Bendickson joining head coach Joe Ardagna and coaches Dan Mell and Noah Pines on the practice ice coaching the Squirt Major team. Coach Bendickson’s contribution to the skill development of the players as well as his connection with the young players has been fantastic.
As the photograph of the boys at the Gladiator game clearly indicates, Coach Bendickson’s players not only know how to play hockey but they know how to write letters and spell his name. The player’s display of support and affection for their coach clearly had an impact as Bendickson scored the fourth goal of the game for the Gladiators helping lead them to a 6-2 victory over Florida.
