The Alpharetta Family Skate Center, otherwise known as The Cooler, is pleased to announce that Chris Powers has accepted the position of Vice-President and General Manager of the facility. Mr. Powers brings more than twenty-five years of experience in business, law and youth sports to the position. Although he now has a new title Chris is no stranger to the Cooler and the various programs it offers. In fact, he has been involved in the facility, since it opened, as a coach in the Atlanta Fire Travel Hockey program. Early in 2011 Mr. Powers became the first chairman of the Atlanta Fire Board and in the fall of last year became the Director of the Atlanta Fire Hockey Club.
Mr. Powers’ involvement in youth hockey extends beyond the Fire program. He has served as a Director from the State of Georgia to the Southern Amateur Hockey Association (SAHA), the affiliate of USA Hockey that oversees the sport in six southern states, for seven years and has also served as Vice-President of that organization for the past several years. In April of this year Mr. Powers was elected to the national Board of Directors for USA Hockey as a Director from the Southeast District. The Southeast District is the largest geographical District in USA Hockey, covering twelve states.
Mr. Powers’ coaching experience includes taking nine teams to USA Hockey’s National Championship, three teams to the PeeWee Quebec tournament an internship with the USA Hockey 18U National Team in Ann Arbor, MI and coaching at the 15U USA Hockey National Development Camp in Rochester, NY. Mr. Powers is married and has three sons, all of whom participated in the Fire program. He grew up in Ann Arbor, MI, received a BA degree in history from Kenyon College and a JD degree from DePaul Law School. The Cooler is pleased and proud to have him on board.
